  Press Release

As an artist, Mui Chong-ki finds beauties everywhere, even in the graveyard for depilated vehicles. For years, he has sketched and painted dozen of works in the form of drawing, watercolour and mixed media painting of these forgotten friends of mankind expiring in their final destination.

He puts colours back on these means of transport that have run out of luck, gas and life. Mui says that he does all these as his personal criticism on the value of consumerism as well as the price that we are paying for attaining rapid progress.

Mui is no stranger to the Hong Kong art scene. He was amongst the earliest group of Chinese artists in Hong Kong who did western styled works and he started exhibiting in group and solo exhibitions here and overseas since 1972.

Born in Taishan County, Guangdong Province, in 1940, Mui received his training in the print department of the Guangzhou Academy of Art. In 1963, he moved to settle in Hong Kong but in recent years Mui spends most his time in his studio in Guangzhou.

Apart from exhibiting sketches, watercolour and his unique kind of mixed media paintings, Mui will also show sculptures that he has made with metal remnants and vehicle parts in the “To Wrecks with Love” exhibition.
