《On the Border》：獻(xiàn)給“水門事件”
這是“老鷹”樂(lè)隊(duì)第一首節(jié)奏藍(lán)調(diào)加放克曲風(fēng)的作品，在當(dāng)時(shí)甚至就連作為鼓手的Don Henley自己，都對(duì)樂(lè)隊(duì)能玩出這樣的作品而感到很驚異。而且這也是Glenn Frey第一次在一首作品里，如此純粹的運(yùn)用節(jié)奏藍(lán)調(diào)演奏技術(shù)。
而這首歌曲的歌詞靈感，則來(lái)自于當(dāng)年引起世界轟動(dòng)的“水門事件”。此事件是當(dāng)權(quán)的政府對(duì)位于水門大廈的民主黨競(jìng)選總部進(jìn)行竊聽(tīng)的一段歷史，在位的總統(tǒng)尼克森，雖然事前并不知道此事，但在知曉此事后卻竭力掩蓋實(shí)情，阻礙司法調(diào)查，還在大眾面前公開(kāi)撒謊，東窗事發(fā)后，尼克森也因此成為美國(guó)歷史上第一位被迫辭職的總統(tǒng)。整個(gè)世界也徹底瓦解了美國(guó)民眾對(duì)政府的信賴和依賴，從而引發(fā)公權(quán)力和個(gè)人隱私之間尺度的思考。而《On the Border》正是“老鷹”的思考成果。
