A rare beacon of positivity in the prevailing climate of cynicism, the unprejudiced outlook of a young child forms the basis for Deng Wushu’s Through the Eyes of a Child series. Cheerily void of political and social criticism, Deng’s is an aesthetic of hope that looks to the future with neither baggage nor bias. The artist was born in Sichuan Province, 1968, and studied oil painting at the acclaimed Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing. His large acrylic canvases of sunglasses-wearing children linger long in the memory and their buoyant message was enthusiastically received at a recent solo exhibition in the US.
