Wu Guanzhong Art Exhibition

Duration: Sep. 11th - Sep. 26th

Venue: Triumph Art Space

Introduction:

Wu Guanzhong is one of the most influential and important artists in 20th century, the flagship of the development of Chinese contemporary art. Wu dedicated his life to the combination of Chinese art and western art, also the nationalization of oil painting and the modernization of Chinese traditional painting. Audaciously, he proposed the idea of "boundless art world" to eliminate the break down barriers that separate oil painting and ink painting in order to bring the nationalization of oil painting and the modernization of Chinese traditional painting to a new level. He promoted his idea of "An Unbroken Kite Line" - fusing figurative painting together with abstract painting by means of contrast and metonymy to create a world of imagism which suit both refined and popular tastes, finally developing the spirit of Chinese traditional art.

In early 1960s, Wu tried to shift his emphasis of creation from watercolor painting to oil painting. From then on, he painted mainly oil paintings; A Street Scene of Lhasa is a representative work during that time. In late 1970s, a series of works of Chinese spirit were painted; their styles are more various, mainly painted with oil, partially Chinese ink. Households of Beijing is a masterpiece during that period. Different with Households of Beijing's structure which is taking the big tree as the main body, Dian Lake is mainly showing the power of the winding and tangling roots from which we can find Wu's pursuit of beauty in form and abstract beauty. In 1980s, Wu's art career was in full blossom, being more and more personalized and stylized. This free imagist expression are concentratedly reflected in his representative works - Wisteria, Morning Bell and Seaside Rocks, etc. In 1990s, Wu successively painted many masterpieces, both ink paintings and oil paintings. Who Build Such a Big Manor for Posterity's is a good representative work of his boldly innovation of picture arrangement during that time.

Now, Mr. Wu Guanzhong has passed away, but just like he said:"I live in my works, if you want see me, see my works".

Triumph Art Space will hold an exhibition to commemorate Mr. Wu Guanzhong from Sep. 11th to Sep. 26th to show sincere respects to him. Many precious works can be seen in this exhibition; it is a good chance to track Mr. Wu Gunazhong's art career.
